The «AOM suitcases» initiative is part of the «Agon, an Olympic Legacy» funded by Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF) and is part of the inclusivity pillar of the program.
An «AOM Suitcases» is an education toolkit for groups of students that have scheduled their school or team visit, and can be used prior, after, or independently of a visit to the Athens Olympic Museum, as part of the Museum’s outreach activations.
These themed toolkits are designed for educators so to conduct activities in the class, the library, activity and other educational centers, and include artifacts, training guides and resources for themed activities.
The materials of the AOM Suitcase can be used to design activities for a variety of age groups. The educators can either follow the recommended activities, adapt them to the needs of different groups, or be inspired to design new narratives for their group.
The AOM Suitcase educational approach
The AOM Suitcases initiative is conceived and designed not only to foster the Museum’s aims and goals, but to complement and enhance the education curriculum in its objective to teach life skills, improve cognitive performance and transfer a philosophy of life aligned to the Olympic Values.
The pedagogical approach of the AOM Suitcase initiative is based on the current educational theory about multiple-intelligence approaches to learning and teaching. Its materials suggest hands-on learning activities applying cognitive, kinesthetic, and affective approaches.
The AOM Suitcase Program:
- Treats learning as an active and collaborating activity, rather than a passive activity
- Includes a variety of media to support the learning process
- Stimulates cognitive capabilities
- Promotes an understanding of Understanding the Olympic and Paralympic Values and how they could apply in sports, in everyday life, and in the classroom.
- Inspire a healthy way of living based on practicing physical activities.
