Mother’s Day with Greek Olympic Champions

Mother’s Day with Greek Olympic Champions

On Saturday, May 9 at 13:00, on the occasion of Mother’s Day, the Athens Olympic Museum, in collaboration with Greek Olympic champions, mothers, and members of the Hellenic Olympians Association (ΗΟΑ), is hosting a special themed tour with free admission for the public, titled “Women in the History of the Games: From Antiquity to Today.”

The tour offers a historical overview, from the earliest female figures of antiquity and their symbolic connection to worship and sport, to the dynamic presence of women in the modern Olympic and Paralympic Games. Key historical moments, social changes, and the personal journeys of Greek Olympians come together in a narrative that highlights the gradual yet decisive expansion of women’s role in sport and the modern Olympic Movement.

The initiative is linked to the gender equality program “Make Place for One More Woman,” reinforcing the message of equality, inclusion, and active participation of women at every level of sport and public life.

More than a museum experience, the tour serves as a living reminder that the history of the Games cannot be fully told without the voice, action, and strength of women, inviting the public to discover the stories, figures, and moments that highlight their lasting contribution to Olympism.

Date: Saturday, May 9, 2026
Start time: 13:00
Duration: 1 hour

Free admission: advance reservation required (tel. +30 210 6885560) – subject to availability
