In honor of the achievements of Olympic champion Alexander Nikolaidis, who passed away prematurely, the Athens Olympic Museum proudly displays his medal from the Athens 2004 Olympic Games.

This priceless donation is exhibited in a specially designed display case in the “Athens 2004” gallery, alongside other significant memorabilia from the 2004 Olympics—a milestone in modern Greek history.

Following the athlete’s heartfelt wishes, Nikolaidis’ silver medals were auctioned, with proceeds donated to children’s charities. After the auction, the medals were returned to his family, who generously loaned his Athens 2004 Olympic medal to the Museum for five years, allowing visitors to admire it and be inspired by his achievements and character. The emotional handover ceremony was attended by students and educators.

The medals and personal belongings of Olympians and Paralympians displayed throughout the Museum pay tribute to Greek athletes and rank among its most treasured exhibits. Through its permanent exhibition and educational programs, the Museum aims to showcase the principles and values of the Olympic Movement, inspiring both young and older visitors to explore the history of sport and Olympism.
