Olympic Day 2023

The Athens Olympic Museum celebrates Olympic Day with this year’s slogan “Let’s Move,” participating in a global initiative to integrate sports into our lives!
Gold Olympic medalist in artistic gymnastics, Demosthenis Tampakos, and rhythmic gymnastics Olympian and sports psychologist, Barbara Magnisali, invite us to meet on June 23rd at 11:00 AM at the Olympic Museum of Athens. Together with them, at a special event, we will discover ways to lead a more active daily life and a healthier lifestyle.
Young and old will have the chance to meet the Olympians and learn about their work up close. They will hear stories from their rich experiences at the Games and will have the opportunity to participate in discussions, screenings, and sports activities for children. Together, we will discover how enjoying the experience of sport can help us achieve balance between mind, will, and body.
A greeting will be delivered on behalf of the Hellenic Olympic Committee (HOC) and the National Olympic Academy (NOA), organizations supporting the event, by Mr. Tomy Tokas, President of the Golf Federation and member of the HOC Board.
This year’s festive activities at the Olympic Museum of Athens for Olympic Day follow the initiative of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO). Adopting the slogan “Let’s Move,” they encourage adults and children to adopt a more active daily life with the goal of cultivating a healthier lifestyle.
World Olympic Day is dedicated to the institution of the Olympic Games, and its celebration was established by the International Olympic Committee based on the day of its founding by Pierre de Coubertin in 1894, and the awarding of the first Modern Olympic Games to Athens in 1896. This year, it will be celebrated worldwide with more than 130 events, aiming to remind everyone that the institution of the Olympic Games, beyond its athletic significance, promotes important moral values and virtues in people, which today are needed more than ever.
For Greece, the significance of Olympic Day is particularly important because it reminds us that the world’s greatest sporting celebration is a revival of the Ancient Greek Olympic Games, promoting the values of fair play and noble competition. The Olympic Day celebrations hold a prominent place in the programming of the Olympic Museum of Athens as, through specially designed events, it remains true to its goal and vision to promote sport and the moral values upheld by the Olympic movement.
