The Athens Olympic Museum Celebrates One Year of Inspiring Visits
On May 14th, the Athens Olympic Museum marks its first anniversary with a series of special events and activities.
Since opening, the Museum has welcomed visitors of all ages, renowned personalities, and elite athletes. It has hosted numerous educational programs and workshops for school groups and sports clubs, as well as its first Easter and Summer Camps. Visitors from Greece and around the world have explored the history and values of Olympism, discovering the milestones that shaped today’s Olympic Games. They’ve also been moved by personal items and memorable moments of our Olympians and Paralympians, bringing history vividly to life.
To celebrate its birthday, the Museum is offering 20 family tickets for free visits on Saturday, May 14th. On the same day, visitors will have the unique opportunity to meet Olympic gold medalist Pyrros Dimas, who will share his experiences and personal message on Olympism.
Young visitors are invited to join free creative workshops on May 14th and 15th, where they can craft objects inspired by three iconic symbols of victory: the olive wreath, the medal, and the torch. These activities encourage children to embrace the values of the Olympic Ideal, including fair play, optimism, teamwork, and the joy of achievement.
Created by Lamda Development S.A. to preserve a significant part of Greece’s Olympic heritage, the Athens Olympic Museum continues to inspire visitors through unique exhibitions and interactive experiences, letting everyone feel the spirit of the Olympic Games.
To participate in the anniversary contest, visit the Museum’s Facebook or Instagram pages, find the related post, and answer the question in a comment: “Do you know how many Olympics have been hosted in Athens from 1896 to today?” The contest runs until May 9th, with winners announced on May 10th.
The Museum also takes part in Olympic Week.
From May 16th to 20th, students and teachers will join live educational sessions with the Museum as part of the Hellenic Olympic Committee’s Olympic Week. Participants will explore the history of the Games, from Ancient Greece to modern events hosted by our country. This year, Olympic Week focuses on sustainability with the theme: “Olympic Week: In Orbit for the Environment and the Planet”, highlighting the connection between sport, culture, and environmental awareness.
