The PARIS 2024 Olympic Torch

As part of this Olympic year, the Athens Olympic Museum is honored to host in its permanent exhibition the Olympic Torch of the upcoming Paris 2024 Games.
Following the conclusion of the Olympic Torch Relay on Greek soil—which included a stop at the Athens Olympic Museum—and just before the opening of the Games in the French capital, the Museum celebrates the newest addition to its collection: the Paris 2024 Olympic Torch, inviting the public to come admire it up close.
The Paris 2024 Olympic Torch was presented to the Athens Olympic Museum by the President of the Olympic Torch Relay Committee, Mr. Thanasis Vassiliadis, and the Master of Ceremonies of the Flame Lighting and Handover Ceremonies, Mr. Giannis Papadimitriou, on behalf of the Hellenic Olympic Committee. This significant addition to the museum's permanent collection enriches its globally relevant displays and expands its existing collection of Olympic Torches.
Visitors to the museum’s permanent exhibition now have the opportunity not only to explore the history and values of Olympism but also to admire this unique piece of art, which symbolizes the universality of the Flame, Peace, and the Unity of Peoples.
The Paris 2024 Olympic Torch was designed by French artist Mathieu Lehanneur and embodies the spirit of Paris 2024 through three thematic pillars: Equality, Water, and Peace.
This year, the traditional message of peace and unity carried by the Olympic Flame is complemented by a message of sustainability, as the torch is made from 100% recycled steel, achieving a zero-carbon footprint.
It is also worth noting that alongside the Paris 2024 Olympic Torch in the permanent exhibition is the official mascot of the Games—the Phrygian cap—an iconic symbol of freedom for France and the world.
Visit the Athens Olympic Museum to see the Paris 2024 Olympic Torch up close, take a photo with it, and experience this iconic piece of art that represents the universality of the Flame, Peace, and the Unity of Peoples.
